Nerds for Normals
My name is Tony Barthel and my company is Nerds for Normals. We take all this social and technical information that Nerds love and distill it to information for Normals. Nerds for Normals!
So many people are talking about social media and wondering if their small business marketing plan is as good as it should be. I can help. My name is Tony Barthel and I have the privilege of working with small businesses and government agencies with their marketing plans. This marketing includes things like social media, video production, print materials, web design and e-mail marketing.
I have been involved in marketing for most of my adult life having cut my teeth working as an affiliate marketing manager for Apple and moving on to work with companies like Domino's Pizza and many others. In my earlier days I had difficulty sitting still so I moved from one job to the next as soon as I felt I had learned everything there was to learn at one place.
In the mid-1980s a friend and I set-up a dial-up nine-line chat board that was the precursor to today's social media explosion called Chat Line. In those days up to nine individuals could converse, share messages, post messages and more. In many ways this was just like today's social media, although without many hundreds of millions of subscribers and you couldn't use your smart phone because they hadn't been invented yet.
From here I moved on to start a print brokerage where I learned production skills as well as page layout, typography, photo editing, logo design and much more. Working closely on marketing with companies gave me an insight and moving on to study marketing, advertising and audience psychology gave me a real understanding of what makes people respond. I also studied journalism and thought that, someday, I would want to work as a writer. Or a hotel operator.
Now you see my dilemma, I just want to cruise through life's buffet rather than pick just one item on the menu!
While operating Chat Line, I was asked to help a DJ friend with several events. Seeing how fun this job was, I adopted this as a part-time hobby job. I watched these events and was concerned about the ho-hum outcome and asked "why doesn't someone actually write a script or event plan?" So that's what I started doing and ultimately turned the part-time DJ hobby into a larger operation. There's more on the Events page.
I also wrote the book Wedding Horror Stories and How To Avoid Them.
One of the most popular features and favorite things that I get to do is write stories about vintage vehicles, detailing the specific history of the make as well as the story of the owner of the vehicle.
I'm very happy to see if my vision, history and experience are the right match for your small business and the marketing challenges it faces. I also can help you find great guerrilla tactics to market your business - great marketing isn't always expensive. But it is effective.
